This can be a scary situation not knowing if your going to be approved for a credit card, I know that feeling but here's the scoop on applying.
Most people apply because they received something in the mail and didn't read the fine print. Most apply and unless its a secured card because of your credit they are denied. Just because you received a card in the mail or in your e-mail does not mean your approved, READ THE FINE PRINT.
Now I have gotten information in the mail and applied and gotten approved but keep in mind my credit afforded me that opportunity. If you already have a credit card most of the time they will give you a credit increase without even asking. If you look on your report you may see it on your report as a soft inquiry. You may ask for an increase on a card after 6 months of paying on time, you may or may not get it, its up to the bank. Google credit card for credit and you can put in if its bad credit and no credit it will pull up the cards to help you on your way.
Once you apply its most likely a hard pull, its on your bureau report as an inquiry for 2 yrs, this reduces you credit score anywhere from 3-5 pts. Most people go and apply for another card and repeat the process since they didn't get that one and lowing your credit score even more. Before you apply for anything you should always know what your bureau scores are because your taking a hit each time you apply. Credit cards are not the only way to build credit, if someone is telling you that they are wrong.
Below you will see a chart that further explains how your credit is evaluated and what lenders see. You may have work to do to get to that 720 score, its not impossible but can take time.
