Medical debt can be a killer on your credit report and this is why, its called OUT OF-Network. Let's start with finding out if your insurance is excepted at a hospital or clinic, most of the time when you call they will say yes. Now them excepting your insurance does not mean all of the doctor's do and there comes the problem.
In an emergency you don't have a choice on who may assist you and your not going to ask you just need help. In an emergency situation if your going to a clinic such as maybe a quick care, yes they will take your insurance at the check in but you will most likely receive a bill in a week or two. This is called out of network billing, meaning that the doctor or doctors seeing you are not covered by your insurance, they need to be IN-Network, now you have a bill.
People always say, " I had Insurance" but what your failing to understand is If your admitted to a hospital your insurance may not cover everything such as medication, days hospitalized parts of a procedure and if the doctors treating you are in network, they're not going to turn you away. There as well can be a problem with coding, its done by people in the billing department and they make mistakes.
What you should do before going to a clinic:
1. Read your policy
2. Call your insurance company to find out what is covered and what your responsible for.
3. Get a full copy of services rendered.
