When asking for corrections on your credit reports always mail it certified, never dispute on line as you have no way of back tracking. A certified letter is the best way sent, you have no way of tracking a phone conversations or doing it on line through a bureau site, keep a copy of the letter and the certification. People think its easy to remove items from your report and its not, remember you going to get the " this debt has been verified and will remain on your report until". Now to me its the run around the standard letter sent back to you, remember they need to prove the debt and how they investigated it, by law that is your right.
There has been times that a bureau will contact the creditor or collection company and they will contact you, but once again they need to prove you owe the debt. I would not even admit the debt then, just ask them to send you all and any information regarding the debt such as billing payments etc, DO NOT GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION, Collection company's can't always prove the debt so its important to put everything in writing certified.
These things are all important as you may need to back up your claim or claims when sending it to the Consumer Protection Agency if need be. If you need to move further you now have your certified mailings along with the information they sent to you, letters don't lie with proof.
Its important to even send certified letters to creditors asking for settlements or payment adjustments so that nothing changes in the agreement.
Its going to take time its not an over night thing and never let anybody tell you it is.
